Personal Defense from a Car

Today’s Pro Tip is learning how to use your concealed carry gun in your vehicle. When drawing from your vehicle, it’s very important that you never sweep your body with any part of the muzzle. That’s why I use a cross-draw technique.

I am locked in my seatbelt and I’m not able to draw from the hip. It's also very difficult to be able to draw from the appendix because I would be sweeping my body.

So, in this scenario right here I use a tactical pocket in my shirt.

If you notice, I shot with two hands in order to be able to get that first target. The problem is trying to get two hands on the gun to shoot that far target.

It is almost impossible being locked in the seatbelt here, so I end up going to a strong hand position.

Now, another option is carrying in a briefcase or a pocket book scenario. This may be your choice if you want a quick and easy draw - without the restriction of a seatbelt.

We just looked at different scenarios how to be able to shoot out of a car. Let's take a look at how to shoot outside of the vehicle.

What I want to do here is make sure that when I am outside I can use something for cover, like the door. Here, motors and hardware can stop a bullet coming at you so I can use this prop to help in those areas.

I have wheels, axles and a motor. So, if I’m using cover behind this vehicle, it can be a great bullet-stopper.

Now, if you are inside the vehicle and you had to shoot outside of it, and you had your windows up, do not be afraid to shoot through that glass. It's going to shatter and explode but that bullet will pass through there.

It is more difficult if you have to shoot out the back window or shoot out the front window because of laminate.

The key thing to remember is that we need to dry fire these drills at home with an unloaded firearm. Understand where your muzzle is pointing, but most importantly, understand how to move around with your seatbelt on.

So these are some things that could save your life in your vehicle, but the most important thing is, if I can drive away from this scene, then I am going to drive away. Good luck and safe shooting.
