Co-witness Sights

Jerry4Witness-1

Hey guys. I've got the new M&P Core pistol. You'll notice that it has a co-witness red dot sight. And today's Pro Tip is how to use this to your advantage.

What the term co-witness means to the shooter is when I present this firearm to the target both sighting systems will be aligned at the center of the target at the same time.

The way I shoot it is like I would have a metallic sight handgun, bringing it into the target zone and, as I am making the presentation, I can also start to see the red dot at the same time.

Then I will take it over with the red dot, or the metallic sight, whichever gives me the advantage at the time.

What you want to be aware of as the shooter is that the iron sights do not have to be perfectly aligned with the target, as long as the red dot is in field of view, anywhere within the screen. If you keep that in the target zone you will get a hit.

A lot of guys, when they mount their red dot sight, they take their metallic sights off of the handgun. The beauty part of having the installation low like this, is it also brings the sighting system in line with the metallic sights.

So the presentation to the target is going to be the same with either the metallic sights or the red dot. It’s really a good set up.

No matter what the target size, distance, conditions on the range, lighting; you have two systems to get the job done. It’s a great combination.
