Robbie Johnson – Shotgun Setup

Today, we are gong to talk about the tactical rifle and shotgun setup. Notice that there are many different types of platforms to choose from when picking your tactical shotgun or rifle.

USAMU6-4

We are going to show you what we use. This is a Benelli M2. Notice that it has a 21 inch barrel and a five round extension tube. The short barrel allows me to get in and out of tight situations and also to have faster target to target transitions. The five round extension tube allows me to carry nine rounds in a gun, which is a necessity for a competition, combat, or personal defense.

Some other modifications I do is I open up the mag well and add an extended button to the bolt release. This allows me to have faster re-loads during stressful situations.

Unlike your tactical rifle, the tactical shotgun accessories usually revolve around on how to carry more ammo. Most commonly used is this side-saddle shell carrier. I would recommend avoiding a plastic side saddle and going with an elastic one like this. Retains the shells more consistently and it is easier to load from.

Another option is the forearm band. It keeps the shells in the same place as the side saddle so you can continue your loading procedure.

Another option I like are these shell caddies. They come in four and six round versions, plastic or aluminum. As you can see, I like the four round aluminum version cause they are easier to load from. These are just a couple of tips to take your tactical shotgun to the winning edge.

Now let’s look at some tips for your tactical rifle. Sgt. Robby Johnson says there are many different options when you set up your tactical rifle.

My rifle has a 20 inch free floated match barrel. Surrounding the barrel is a ventilated aluminum free float tube. This free float tube allows me to get into any position that I’d require quickly and without having any negative effects on the barrel.

Attached to the end of the barrel is a muzzle brake. This muzzle brake eliminates recoil and muzzle rise allowing for a much quicker, more accurate second shot.

I’ve chosen to go with a thick fixed butt stock on this rife. This allows me to get a very consistent cheek-stock weld getting behind the scope just a little quicker.

We’ve chosen to go with a 1/2 size variable power scope. This allows me to engage targets at any distance quickly and accurately. There’s a curved, single stage, crisp, three pound trigger in this rifle.

I go with a three pound trigger because anything heavier is going to give me a little bit of movement on those long range targets. If I go too light, I won’t be able to feel it on a cold day. This is just some of the equipment we use to become champions. Until next time, stay Army strong.
