Pro Tip -  AMU Competition Rifles Explained by Division

USAMU8-5-1

SFC Daniel Horner, Tac-Optics Division: For this division I choose an AR-15 platform rifle.

It has a compensator to absorb the recoil, a match grade barrel, a match grade trigger and an adjustable buttstock.

One of the biggest things that separate it for this division is its variable power optic. I am able to go from low magnification to high magnification. This allows me to engage targets close very rapidly or at distance with great precision.

SFC Joel Turner, Limited Division: My rifle is set up identical to Sergeant Horner’s except the optic.

I am limited to a one-power optic. I am zeroed at 300 yards. I know my holdovers and my hold under so that allows me to transition between far targets and close targets without any adjustment.

SFC Matt Sweeny, Heavy Metal Optics Division: The Heavy Metal Optics division is a .308 caliber division.

You can only have 20 rounds in your magazines for the Heavy Metal Optics division, which means I have to plan my stages differently.

With .308 the compensator really comes into play with the heavy recoil.

I have a match-grade barrel which is going to help make my shots true.

My free float tube isn’t going to put any stress on the barrel. I have a variable power scope for close and long-range targets.

I have a match grade trigger and an adjustable stock.

Sgt. Shane Coley, Open Division: The biggest difference between my rifle and the rest of the team is I am allowed a second optic, a red dot optic on the side of my rifle.

USAMU8-5-17

I offset it at 45 degrees, so when I go from long range to short range targets I only have to rotate the rife, which saves me a ton of time, as opposed to having to dial my scope back and forth between the two sets of targets.
