USPSA Pistol Caliber Carbine Nationals

The USPSA Pistol Caliber Carbine Nationals

It is the fastest growing division in action shooting. PCC is scored on speed and accuracy on the handgun targets used in practical shooting, but employing AR derivatives chambered for pistol cartridges, most often 9mm. Plus, searching and finding Civil War History buried in the ground in Tennessee and in the rivers that flowed through the battlefields dividing blue and gray. Then the first upgrade for 007 that is still a top choice for personal protection.  The Walther PPK is one of History’s Guns. And a Pro Tip from the Army Marksmanship Unit on shooting the most challenging stage of the Bianchi Cup, The Mover.

USPSA Pistol Caliber Carbine Nationals

39-11-1Love it or hate it the Pistol Caliber Carbine is here to stay, but at the National Championship level, the days of these rifles taking advantage of stages designed for pistols are over. This year the USPSA’s PCC Nationals is a stand-alone event. That means the courses of fire have been specifically designed to test the shooter and the equipment.

The bays at the universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof Florida will be the proving ground for nearly 250 fans of the PCC.

39-11-2It’s an opportunity to stake their claim on the title of National Champion. The news this year, the twelve courses of fire are specifically designed for rifles running pistol caliber.

USPSA President, Mike Foley Explains the Challenges:  “When your testing only PCC’s you get to do some things that you might not get to do otherwise. And it’s not necessarily the tests themselves but how they’re paired together. All throttle; all break; all distance, the 58 yard swinger in this event is pretty sporty.”

39-11-3It’s more and more popular and fast, with competitors starting from the low ready position on every stage of fire.

History In The Ground

39-11-5There are two ways to research the battles and the relics of the Civil War.  The most obvious is reference books. But in Tennessee, that had battles rage across most of the state, the research tool for collectors, is a metal detector like the Minelab Vanquish 540. And the hobbyists who use them, do indeed find History in the Ground.

39-11-6Nearly 80-thousand soldiers fought in the Battle of Stones River near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, just after Christmas of 1862. Both Union and Confederate troops carried the Pattern of 1853 Enfield rifle musket, a .577 caliber caplock muzzleloader imported from England. The Confederates also used several types of short-barreled Enfields.  Just 800 were marked G for Georgia although some of those went to other states. Nobody knows how many Georgia Fusils were on the Stones River battlefield, but we know one was.  Lost by a Confederate soldier during the battle. lost underwater at the bottom of the river for nearly 160 years and found with a metal detector in the fall of 2019.
